I’ve been stocking the shelves in “Annie Mame” really since the first of 2012 knowing the Grand Opening of all the little boutiques at Ventucci Home in Westbrook, Connecticut would be on April 1st What I have found is that I am building an old fashioned department store, that’s something many of the newest generation have really never seen. Department stores used to be multiple floors with an elevator operator and a mezzanine and a soda fountain and there were all kinds of goings on in there, they were the heart of a downtown. I like variety, remember that’s the spice of life and so that is what I am doing at Annie Mame. I am chocking it full of all kinds of things that catch my eye, many things are Connecticut made. The darling baby hats that I have just put in the store are a hit, and I love that because I’m a knitter. These were not made by me, but are highly endorsed and are coming from right along the shoreline in Clinton. So suffice it to say I will always be looking for unique wonderful gifts that some of us who remember would have found in a department store of long ago.
