“Mad Men’s” Don, Betty, Roger and Joan
It’s a pint sized grouping of fun for doll collectors right here I’ll tell you. It’s Mad Men’s hottest characters coming to a dollhouse near you. And yes there is a Connecticut connection to Mad Men…keep reading.
These are going to be a tad pricey when they come out in July, could be as high as $75.00, but I suppose if you’re a collector and you love “Mad Men” this will be great under the tree, maybe that’s how you can rationalize it. They’re being brought to you by Mattel, Lionsgate and AMC.
Coming to a store near you will be Don Draper and his wife Betty, Roger Sterling and that little vixen secretary, Joan Holloway. The Joan doll is very Barbie, and as for Betty, very Midge-like. These dolls are designed by the guy who put out the world famous Barbie. Like the Barbie and Ken dolls, you’ll also be able to purchase cool sixties style clothes and accessories the likes of which you see on the wildly popular AMC show.
Now here’s the Connecticut connection, it turns out Jennifer Getzinger, formerly of Branford, Connecticut is a director, and yes, has directed three episodes of Mad Men. Jennifer graduated from Branford High School. I spoke with her recently on Facebook and am trying to set up an interview with her when she comes home from Los Angeles to the Nutmeg state as she does from time to time.
Jennifer was selected as one of only eight women to take part in the American Film Institute’s Directing Workshop for Women. It is a national competition to promote the development of more women directors in film and television. You go Jennifer! Email me for that interview would you?
Post note: Just heard from Jennifer from the left coast who says ” I’m directing 2 more this season! (Season #4) I can’t wait to get the new scripts!!
