Lauren Bacall, Old Hollywood and The Rat Pack

Lauren Bacall’s smoking is terrible, horrible, but let’s talk about the actress for a second…geeze no wonder Humphrey Bogart married her.”Bogey” and “Betty” used to hang out with icons Katharine Hepburn and her paramour, Spencer Tracy and in fact these four were instrumental in starting what is known as the “Rat Pack.”

Most think of the “Rat Pack” as a group started by Frank Sinatra which included Joey Bishop, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. and Peter Lawford.

It turns out it was Sinatra who was invited into the under-the-radar-secret Hollywood meetings that Bacall started in Judy Garland’s home in Holmby Hills. Above is a photo of Garland’s home. The actress-singer lived there from 1953 thru 1960 with her husband at the time, Sid Luft. These big stars liked to hob nob on their own and they invited in only those they saw fit into “their” group. Can’t you just see the sipping of the champagne in those sidecar flutes.

Yes. I can totally see the champagne thing. Seriously.
Isn’t Miss Bacall (who recently recieved an honorary oscar by the way) part of the honorary branch of my favortite board of trustees (maybe you know them, Ann? ;) )?
and I believe it was Cynthia McFadden who once said that you can’t honor one (refering to Hepburn) without honoring the other (refering to Bacall). Or something like that.

Marcia, you are right on the money!
